Child Find Statement

In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) requirements, Haywood Public School is committed to the identification, location, and evaluation of all children with disabilities, ages 3 through 21, who reside within the district’s boundaries, regardless of the severity of their disability.

This responsibility applies to:
• Children attending public, private, and home schools,
• Children who are homeless or wards of the state,
• Children who may be advancing from grade to grade but still experience a disability, and
• Children suspected of having a disability even though they are not currently receiving special education services.

Child Find ensures that children who may need special education and related services are identified at the earliest possible age. Evaluations are conducted in compliance with IDEA regulations and the Oklahoma Special Education Policies and Procedures to determine eligibility for services under one or more of the IDEA disability categories.

Parents, teachers, agencies, or any person who believes a child may have a disability can initiate a referral by contacting:

Mr. Bud Rattan, Superintendent
Haywood Public School
11461 W Highway 31
McAlester, OK 74501
Phone: 918.423.6265

Haywood Public School actively seeks to ensure all children with disabilities, including those not yet enrolled in school, are given the opportunity to receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment.
